I was lucky enough to chat with Lewys Hynes about his upcoming début single. The 20-year-old singer/songwriter from Merthyr Tydfil has been in the spotlight since the age of eight, and has been on the road to success ever since.
Over the years, Lewys has toured the U.K. with various theatre productions, and even appeared on our screens in series such as Trollied and Casualty. At the age of eighteen, Lewys’ mum encouraged him to audition as a vocalist for one of the U.K.’s leading holiday camps in Devon. Despite the large number of applicants, Lewys landed the role and became a lead male vocalist for the summer, enjoying the opportunity to work with children. Since then, he has been gigging as much as he can whilst studying Musical Theatre at GAMTA. “The last two years have been about pushing my music, and I’m so excited for people to hear my new single”, Lewys adds.
Lewys is set to fly up to Glasgow next month to write and record his new single alongside producer Josh Rhys Owen, who has worked with artists such as Freddy Parker and Ryan Lawrie; both of whom appeared on series thirteen of The X Factor. Lewys is incredibly excited to start recording, and cannot wait for the future. Inspired by artists such as Dua Lipa, Calvin Harris, Olly Alexander and Louisa Johnson, he has big plans for his pop music journey. Lewys says, “It’s going to be a summer track, something easy to listen to. I want you to imagine blasting it in the car with the roof down”. Despite his big plans, Lewys doesn’t want to forget his following in South Wales. He says, “I don’t ever want to forget about my roots. I’m so passionate about Merthyr”. Alongside his fans, he is especially thankful for his family, who have also been incredibly supportive of him every step of the way; driving him to events and cheering him on through his journey.
Keep an eye out on Lewys’ social media pages to catch him at a venue near you. In the mean time, catch up on his videos – particularly his cover of “We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off”, in collaboration with Lisa Jones from The Voice, and his cover of Craig David’s “All We Needed”. If you want to know more about his upcoming single, make sure to follow him on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, where he will be posting frequent updates. Best of luck, Lewys!
